Torre Gives Dodgers Day Off

Joe Torre gave his team a break from practice on Tuesday in hopes of rejuvenating their playoff lives for Game 5 against the Phils Wednesday night. The Dodgers blew a 5-3 lead before losing 7-5 on Monday and now trail the Phightins 3-1 in the NLCS.       

Celtics Pick Up Rondo’s Option

The Celtics announced Tuesday that they will exercise their $2.09 million option on point guard Rajon Rondo’s contract for the 2009-10 season. Rondo averaged 10.6 points with 5.1 assists with the Celtics last season, his second in the NBA.       

Redskins Sign Shaun Alexander

The ‘Skins signed Shaun Alexander to a one-year deal on Tuesday to fill in for Ladell Betts as he recovers from a knee injury. Betts is expected to miss around three weeks with the injury.  Alexander will back up starting RB Clinton Portis during Betts’ recovery.
